Today, I thought I’d share a book that I’ve been reading. I usually have a couple of books that I’m reading (all at the same time, yes). Before I buy a book, I always read the reviews, so I thought it fitting to post a few of my book findings here.

First I have to say that it takes a lot to impress me, craft wise. It could be living with my “classically trained artist” husband. It could be living in New York City. Whatever it is, I do not get impressed easily, especially not be crafting books.
I decided to read the book, “Creative Doodling & Beyond” by Stephanie Corfee with low expectations. Honestly, I doodle already. But I do love the cover art, and the description on the cover states, “Inspiring exersize, prompts and projects….” and the truth is, we could all do with a bit of inspiration, can’t we?
The book is written by artist Stephanie Corfee (published by Walter Foster) who has an awesome website and a cool etsy store, where she sells her artwork in prints & stationary.
This book starts out with giving you a short list of INEXPENSIVE art supplies that she uses in her doodling. I love love love when books give you a low-fi list of art supplies, rather than those with a laundry list of rare supplies that the one store across town carries. It’s great to be low maintenance in art.
Anyway, she does very little talking, and does a lot of instruction. I love that. She delves right into the drawing exersizes, giving you an idea of not actually HOW to doodle, but how to free yourself from tension when you are doodling. Great, huh?
She goes in from the simple lines to more complex exercises with you, making you feel like you can really do this, you can really take your drawing to the next level.
The book ALSO contains art/craft projects that incorporate your drawings. Things like gift tags, bags, and even fabric work!
The Bottom Line: Creative Doodling & Beyond is a great book that helps you bring your drawing to the next level, and is a GREAT book for those crafters who feel they can’t draw.
Note: I wasn’t paid for this post. On occasion I may receive a free book or product here and there and will be posting my opinion & a review on occasion.
Stephanie is an amazing artist and person, I absolutely love her style! Her art hangs through out my house, it just makes me so happy to look upon it everyday!
