Sweet Memories Mini Scrapbook

Recently I finished up this cute little scrapbook.

I guess since I’m pregnant, I am feeling like I want to start scrapbooking again. Something about having kids makes me want to do this.
Those flowers were glittered because my daughter thought it would be a good idea. That glittery goodness is by Art Institute Glitter.

I used some papers by Echo Park Paper, from a series called “Country Drive”. I also used a couple of Prima flowers, and some glitter by Art Institute Glitter, to give it a little pizzaz.

That little brown bird is a chipboard thingamajig from Stampin’ Up. I inked him up with brown ink, then added some “dazzler’s” glitter by Art Institute Glitter.

What else? Well, if you want an update, I’m currently 35 weeks pregnant. That means, I’ve got about 2-3 more weeks, realistically. My daughter Dakota came early. My midwife says it’s possible that this one come early too. I can tell you that this one kicks and moves a lot more than my Dakota did in-utero.

And I have to say, it is NOT an easy task to be a mother, AND be pregnant. Not at all. On top of the mood swings, and the cravings, you then have people besides yourself to take care of, and at times you really do want to move far far away where all you hear is silence and no one bothers you. Then you think, but jeez, maybe I’ll miss all the noise, eh? I guess that’s being a mom for you. My way of pampering myself is taking extra long showers. My daughter will start knocking if I’m in there too long, but I don’t care. Normally I go for the eco-friendly 5 minute shower rule, but pregnancy makes me want to not bother with that so much.

Oh and I better start getting ready for Christmas! So much to do. I should hire an intern. Or split myself in half. Either way.

Hand Stamped Gift Tags

So I use gift tags quite a bit. So I hosted a swap on swap-bot, for making a set of gift tags. I made a set similar to what I’d want to receive (but I didn’t).

I love them, don’t you? A bit of ink and PAN pastels really make the tags “sing”, don’t you think?

Hmmmm….what else.

I have to run to canal street to purchase some last minute supplies. Wish me luck. I ask you to wish me luck, because this time of year, New York City is tourist mecca, and the streets are so crowded. But there, I get the best deal on jewelry making supplies (at Pearl Paint, if you live in NYC).

After that, this afternoon my little one has an appointment with the dentist for the very first time. Oh my goodness. I don’t know what to think. Should I anticipate a tantrum? I do not know what to expect.

I was browsing through photos of her last year, trick or treating, and boy. She certainly does not look like a baby anymore. She looks like a little girl. I can’t believe it. Soon she’ll be a teenager, complaining that her little sister stole her favorite shirt.

Wow. I simply cannot believe it.

On a side note, I was reading THIS article, and thinking, “can’t we all just get along?”

I have experienced “judgmental mommies” and I have to say, it’s not fun. It’s really stupid to judge someone else because they allow their child to eat sugar, or watch television. Who cares, as my husband says. They do not pay your mortgage, he says. It’s true.

I never judge. I mean, why bother? I barely have time for everything as it is, I do not have time to sit and judge you, because you won’t let your 10 year old watch “Ratatouille”, or something. Everyone parents differently.

I stay home with my daughter, and I’m happy with that. I don’t need the snotty, “well, I tried to stay home, but I got so bored, I couldn’t stand it! I don’t know how you can just sit there all day.” This was told to me a while back by a woman on the train. We were talking about motherhood.

I want to say, that I don’t just “sit there all day.”  There are plenty of things that I do in a day being a stay at home WORKING mother, but “sit there” is not one of them.

Years ago, I was at a protest in Philadelphia, and I remember reading a sign that said, “Every mother is a working mother”. It’s true. We ALL are. Let’s just leave it at that.

Handmade Scrapbook Stickers

Today’s project was inspired by my browsing etsy. I was just looking, since I normally try to get jewelry inspiration from high fashion magazines, but this time haven’t gotten to it yet.

Anyway, I found a fun little item, so EASY, I couldn’t STAND it! I just HAD to make it. So here’s what I made.

Cute, right?

I’ll show you E A S Y it is to make these, in my upcoming LIVE video Blog! Finally! Check out the details HERE. I’m really excited about it. I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time now.

I’m having a bad morning, so I’ll spare you the bad mood and cut my blog short today. Suffice to say it is a murphy’s law kind of day, all before 10am in the morning.

An Altered Journal for a Pin Up Fan

Today I worked on a swap. I do love creating things for swaps, it’s so much fun. The swap that I worked on today, is for an altered journal. Fortunately for me, I happened to have a very good artist sketchbook, just waiting to be altered.

My partner’s favorite color is purple, and she loves pin up girls. So here’s what I came up with:

Now, I know that it is not typical of me to have a lot going on, as I love to lean towards the simple side, but today I was in the mood for a lot going on. I used purple acrylic paint by Plaid Crafts, Pan pastels in purple, typewriter font background stamp, and fusible glittery fibers, by Art Institute Glitter. The flower is by Prima, and is hiding a smudge. Damned inky fingers.

I used dimensionals to get Ms. Betti Page to pop out a bit more.

The ribbon was sent to me as extras, in a swap I was in.

The film strip ribbon is by Mr. Tim Holtz. I love that stuff!

What else? Today I am catching up on a bunch of swaps. I usually do them in bundles, since I wait until I have the extra $$ to mail them all out. It’s easier to do it once every couple weeks or so, then to have to keep going every so often.

Oh man. The other day, I made the most AMAZING portobello mushroom pizza and blackberry lemonade. It was SO good. Don’t worry, the food blog is coming. But since I don’t have the most high tech camera in the world, you all will just have to wait until my dear husband has the time to take amazing shots with my crappy camera, of the step by step.

That’s all for today.

ATC Week: The Final Frontier

So this being the last day of the week of ATCs, I thought it fitting to show you a fun and quick project that I made. It’s an ATC container!

This is a fun and quick project.

You can get a very cool template courtesy of Inking Pink. Granted, my box is simple. To make up for it, here’s a couple pics of my meetup group in action:

We had so much fun! We meet up every other friday night, and get together to have coffee, share our art supplies, and bitch about men and life, and all that.

It’s a lot of fun. You should join us, if you’re ever in the New York City area, or if you live near by.

Today is Saturday, which is goof off day for me, since my husband is working a double shift today. It’s raining, which means what? You said it folks: take out. Yummmmy in my tummy. I’ll be good and just make it pizza for tonite.  At least pizza isn’t SOOO bad for you, right?

I’m keeping up the theme thing, I think. Next week: Art Journal week! I’ve decided to make myself vulnerable and show you all the sort of painting and collage work that I love to do. You don’t mind, right?

ATC Week: Day 3

So today I did a bit of collage work, for my set of 5 Artist Trading Cards.

Take a look:

For this one, I used an image I had printed wallet sized, at staples. I get a ton of them printed, because I use them in my photo Xfer jewelry stuff.

Then, the little hanging frida there, is a tiny picture I had printed, and then decoupaged it with mod podge on a large sequin.

And the quote was typed up on my gold old fashioned typewriter.

Oh man, it is so much fun to use a typewriter.

I like the little rhinestone heart, don’t you?

I love Billy Holiday, and I love this quote of hers. It’s true for everything, you know? It is always best to think your OWN thoughts and come up with your OWN ideas and not be afraid of expressing your true creative self.

Bob. Because he’s cool, that’s why.

This Bob does NOT need a rhinestone star. I think the sunglasses he’s wearing make up for the rhinestone.

I was so inspired by this typewriter of mine, that I’m attempting to type out a poem to use in some collage work in my art journal. I’ve decided I kind of like themed weeks for my blog. It’s kind of fun.

It’s really hot outside. Someone please come over with some coffee ice cream, please? It’s beginning to be too much. I don’t mind the sunny weather, but it’s too much to be hot and pregnant. Makes a person grouchy.

The Beginning of ATC Week

So I’ve decided to dub this week as “ATC Week” for me, since I’m in a swap where I’ve got to send out 20 ATCs. That’s a lot of ATCs, huh? Well, I’m up for the challenge.

Well I’m going to make a few a day, until it’s time to send out. I hope you don’t mind.

I keep using that Imagine stamp because I really like it a lot.  And I needed an excuse to use that glitter paper. Oh man. The glittered paper, the green cardstock paper, and ribbon, are all from this month’s sampler kit.

This paper is from last month’s sampler kit.

And this one is from this month’s sampler kit.

Granted, they are simple. But I like simple.

I just finished reading the book, “The Alchemist” by Paul Coelho and I love it! I read it in a few days. It’s such an easy book to read, and really captures your attention.

If you’re in the mood to be inspired, and read an interesting story all at the same time, I highly suggest reading this book.

A Scrapbook, and a Giveaway

So I’ve mentioned before that I design for The Sampler, which is a lovely monthly scrapbook kit subscription.  I love the idea of monthly kits. They are such a fun way of stocking up on paper craft supplies.

I wanted to first show you a sneak peak, for May kit, and then show you what I’ve made with April’s kit. And, they’re having a giveaway, isn’t that nice?

So here’s a couple sneak peaks:

Trust me, the items in the kit are as yummy as they look, truly. Oh, and they are having a very lovely giveaway! Isn’t that nice?

Here’s what I made, with my April Kit:

Do you like it? I really do. I used some vintage lace trip to bind the paper bag book. I love making paper bag books. They are so much fun! And so portable. You know? AND, the pockets. I’m a sucker for pockets, since I love to save things.

I’ve recently gotten back into scrapbooking, for reasons I cannot yet tell you. So you’ll have to wait another, uhm…4 or 5 weeks, and I’ll keep you in suspense that way.

But if you ever want to, I do suggest joining a monthly scrapbooking kit such as The Sampler, as it is chock full of all sorts of goodies.

I really want to tell you now, but I’m going to play it safe and wait a bit longer.

A Pretty Little Shrine

So I made a trip to the Ink Pad recently, over in manhattan. This of course, was my downfall. I ended up with four new stamps, and a few fun little things to play with.

With a shrine stamp that I bought, I made this little matchbox shrine.

Nice, right? I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stamp. This one is by Stamper’s Anonymous and I LOVE it. I stamped it on watercolor paper that I had painted with shimmering watercolors that I make myself. Then, I took a matchbox, and covered it in paper and glued it to the back. Then, I rifled thru my odds and ends and found this lovely beaded little girl.

I like this stamp a lot. I think for Xmas, I may end up making a bunch of shrines.

Oh, and as for the lot of rubber stamps? I had to go through my stash of rubber stamps and de-stash. I de-stashed over 50 SETS of rubber stamps, and was left with about 70 sets of rubber stamps, and at least over 100 individual stamps. I prefer the style of rubber stamps that I’ve been buying/using lately. So that’s why I had to de-stash. I’m giving them to my friend Yoshi, who just recently got into paper crafts, and even just bought a sizzix big shot. So the lot of 50 stamps will go to good use, I think. I could sell them, but that is just a hassle. I’d rather reap good craft supply karma, and give them away. You know?

So that’s that.

A Bird in the Air

I just made a few more cards.

You like them? These cards are also going to be a part of my workshop, at the Ink Pad.

The workshop is on April 13th, and you can call them at 212-463-9876. I hope you can make it! Card making is a lot of fun.

What else? I’m participating in NaPoWriMo, which is a challenge in the month of april, to write a poem each month. I won’t be posting them all, but I will post some of them now and then.
